Common  Core and Essential Standards

As communication, commerce, and technology continue to advance at a rapid rate, so too do the skills necessary to be competitive in the global workforce.  In order to keep pace, America's children must be prepared no matter where they live or where they go to school.  In the past, academic standards have been different from state to state, leaving some of our students at a competitive disadvantage.

This site is designed to help our communities understand the changes underway to help students grow and prosper in the 21st Century as productive and successful citizens, just as other students across our great nation.  The Common Core Essential Standards initiative is designed to help students transition toward college and career readiness along side of peers throughout North Carolina as well as across the United States.

The Surry County School System is committed to educating all students to be productive workers, responsible citizens, and life-long learners, enabling them to be globally competitive and prepared for life in the 21st Century. (Surry County Board of Education Mission)
